Kimchi is looking for a forever family, a home to feel safe in. For over a year she's been accustomed to visitors walking past her kennel, never picking her as their pet, never pausing to offer her a pat. At ASD we're puzzled, as Kimchi has all the right attributes to be a great pet. She just needs the right person to help bring out the very best in her.

Kimchi can be boisterous and shy at times so will benefit from an owner with time for plenty of exercise, and the patience to coax and socialise Kimchi in new environments. If that's YOU, then call us on +65 9452 3146, or email info@asdsingapore.com for more information.

Kimchi is available for adoption in Singapore and overseas as part of our SSOS programme.

6 November: Kimchi is a changed dog! She now loves her exercise out in the park, seen here enjoying the company of puppies Dollar and Lincoln.

A few weeks back, Kimchi needed a lot of encouragement to leave the safety of the shelter and venture out for a walk, but yesterday ( 23 October) Kimchi found new meaning in going "WALKIES!". Strutting along happily, tail wagging, she didn't falter and was even confident walking over a busy bridge with plenty of large trucks. She loved it - and is begging for more!
Kimchi even rode happily in the back of the car down to the Kranji reservoir park. Think the best part for her was having little LV along, a new pup who has just entered ASD's adoption programme.

Kimchi's Biography

Name
Kimchi

Date of Birth
Estimated April 2008

Gender
Female

Breed
"Singapore Special" i.e. mixed breed, possible Labrador cross

Size (full grown)
19 Kgs, 2.5 feet

History
Kimchi was part of a pack roaming in Kallang, being fed regularly by one of ASD’s volunteers. She was rescued in June 2008 and brought to ASD along with her siblings and mother for sterilisation. Mum was spayed and released back to Kallang and homes were found for all but Kimchi, a surprising outcome bearing in mind Kimchi’s friendly nature and her Labrador looks.

Features
A great looking dog - quite unique. Although similar to a Labrador with a dark golden colour, brown eyes and intelligent face, various features stand her a breed apart, such as a pointed muzzle, smaller more alert ears, and a gorgeous furrowed brow that adds a quizzical and cute look to her overall appearance. She has a stocky, strong and cuddly build. Her tail is long and thick and a little curly, carried high and gaily when she’s happy.

Personality
Playful and very friendly towards everyone within the shelter. Enjoys chasing toys. Can be boisterous if she doesn't get sufficient exercise to keep her fit and stimulated. Enjoys walks and is fine on leash but will benefit from more training. Good in the car, but a little nervous when out walking in heavy traffic - extra practice will overcome this.

Good with Children
Over 8 is best due to her occasional boistrousness.

Good with dogs
Yes.

Good with cats
Not tested

Paper trained
Kimchi is happiest doing her "business" outside.

Understands basic commands
Knows sit but has received no regular training in basic commands. Is food motivated so should react well to training.
Sterilised:
Yes
Health:
Fully vaccinated. Overall health good, but Kimchi does exhibit a weakness in her back legs and benefits from extra calcium in her diet. This weakness was from birth. Kimchi is also overweight - the exercise will do her good and weight loss will be beneficial for her back legs.
